Manaaki Tairāwhiti is one of three original place-based initiatives set up in 2016 to improve outcomes for at-risk children and their whānau by shifting collective decision-making and discretion to the local level. Based on a whānau centred way of working and system change Manaaki Tairāwhiti has been trialling whānau-centred, cross agency ways of working, and identifying system improvements to improve outcomes for wider whānau.

An evaluation of the place-based initiatives including Manaaki Tairawhiti was undertaken in 2019. The report on the evaluation findings is available here.
